The hourly rate

Starting at $85 an hour, matched to the student

Every session is one instructor and one student, in a private cubicle at the center. The rate depends on the subject and the instructor's level: a sophomore tutoring Algebra 1 and a professor preparing a student for the MCAT are different jobs, priced differently.

Instructor levels

We match the instructor to what the student needs, not the other way around. The levels, from the starting rate upward:

  • University freshman or sophomore
  • University junior or senior
  • Graduate student
  • PhD candidate
  • School teacher
  • University professor

What is always included

  • One-on-one instruction. No group sessions at any price.
  • A private cubicle and an interactive tablet that saves the session notes.
  • Optional audio recording, to listen to at home.
  • A free consultation before anything is charged.
  • No membership or sign-up fee.

The exact rate for your student is quoted at the consultation, once we know the subject and the instructor.

Hour packages

Buy hours in a block and the rate comes down

Most students who make real progress come in for a set number of hours over a term, so we price that way. The more hours in the package, the bigger the discount on every one of them.

10 hours

10% off every hour

A focused run at one subject or one test: enough sessions for the consultation to turn into a plan and the plan to show results.

15 hours

15% off every hour

A term of weekly sessions, with room for the extra hour before a big exam.

A worked example at $125 an hour

Take a student matched with an instructor at $125 an hour, and 20 hours of tutoring over the term. Paid hour by hour, that is $2,500. Here is what the same 20 hours cost in packages.

$125 is an example rate, not a quote. Your rate depends on the subject and the instructor, and the same percentages apply to it. Packages are paid up front, can be refunded within 30 days, and expire 12 months after purchase. Full terms: us.ututorsacademy.com/client-terms.

Referral program

Know a family who needs us? That is worth $150.

Most of our families come to us because another family told them to. We would rather thank you for that than spend the money on advertising.

  • $150 credit on your account for every family you refer, after their first paid session.
  • No limit. Refer three families and that is $450 of tutoring.
  • Nothing to sign up for. Have them mention your name at their free consultation, or call us and we will note it.

The $150 credit is applied after the referred family’s first paid session and goes toward sessions at the center. Referral credits aren’t available on accounts paid with Step Up For Students scholarship funds.

Questions parents ask

What decides the hourly rate?

Two things: the subject, and the instructor's level, from a university freshman to a school teacher or university professor. We match the instructor to what the student needs, then quote the rate before anything is booked.

Is there a membership or sign-up fee?

No. You pay for sessions only, and the first one, the consultation, is free.

Do package hours expire?

Packages are paid up front, can be refunded within 30 days, and expire 12 months after purchase. Full terms: us.ututorsacademy.com/client-terms.

Does the package discount apply to any subject?

Yes. The discount is a percentage of the hourly rate, so it applies whatever the subject and whichever instructor you are matched with.

How does the referral credit work?

Tell a family about us. The $150 credit is applied after the referred family's first paid session and goes toward sessions at the center. Referral credits aren't available on accounts paid with Step Up For Students scholarship funds. There is no limit on how many families you can refer.

Are these the prices for the online SAT and ACT practice?

No. This page is for in-person, one-on-one tutoring at the center. The online practice platform has its own plans, from $29.99 a month, on the test prep page.

Ten seats. One could be your child's.

The consultation is free and takes one session. You will know more than another term of guessing would tell you.

Before the consultation you sign our short Client Services Agreement, by email or at the center; the consultation takes place once it is signed.
